Catholic Charities West Michigan

There are many ways in which you can provide help and create hope for the individuals and families served through Catholic Charities West Michigan.

If you are interested in any of these activities please call 616.551.5667 for more information.

Some opportunities include:

  • Donate personal care items. We are in need of personal care items, shampoo, perfume, soap, shavers, deodorant, lotion, q-tips, Kleenex, etc.

  • Collecting items to be used at our Casa Family Support Center.  Previously a transitional housing shelter, the home “reopened” in December 2010 as a visit and education center for the agency’s foster children and their families.  While children are in foster care, they are now able to visit with their siblings and biological parents in the comfort of a home setting, which allows for flexibility during parenting time and increased parent/child interaction. The Center would appreciate donations of paper towels, coffee filters and coffee, dish soap, dishes, silverware, board games (various age appropriate), a stroller or two, play dishes and food for the kitchen in the playroom. There are several other "wishes" for the center including wood chips for the play area outside, light fixture/fan replacement for the office, flooring for the main floor, outdoor toys and a Wii with games.

  • Holding a baby shower to benefit our Baby Pantry or Pregnancy Support Program. Bring together your friends, or family for a baby shower and donate the items to Catholic Charities West Michigan clients. Diapers, wipes, formula, new and gently used clothing, baby gates, new car seats, toys, and baby food are always needed.  A Catholic Charities West Michigan staff person would be happy to attend the shower and speak to your guests about how the gifts will be used in our community.

  • Leading a drive to collect canned goods for our food and pantry programs. Businesses, organizations, and youth provide many of the basic items needed to stock shelves at our kitchens and pantries, including instant potatoes, canned meats, gravies, soups, tomato sauce, vegetables and fruits.  Donations of boxed meals, stuffing mixes, individual serving packages of puddings and applesauce, drink boxes, granola bars and cereals are also appreciated. We can provide you with collection barrels or bags and signage to help ensure the success of your project.

  • Hosting a fund raising event to benefit Catholic Charities West Michigan. Your group can organize and host any number of fundraising events to benefit Catholic Charities West Michigan (from something as simple as a canned goods drive to a golf outing or an evening event.)  Please call 616.551.5662 to discuss your ideas and let us know how we can assist you.

  • Donating your used vehicle (in running condition), working household appliances, or gently used furniture.  Many of our clients need assistance establishing or reestablishing a safe household. Items such as beds, sofas, chairs, tables, dressers and small appliances can help meet basic needs of these families. Tax receipts are available.

  • Helping a Family at the Holidays. We are happy to accept donations of new items to be distributed to children served through Catholic Charities West Michigan programs at Christmas. Unwrapped gifts, appropriate for age range of 0-18, such as board games, toys, art supplies, craft projects, bedding, gift cards, trucks, dolls will bring help make a child's Christmas merry.
