A devastating house fire brought a distraught Amanda to the Grand Rapids baby and toddler pantry, operated by Catholic Charities West Michigan, for the first time in May 2016.
She lost nearly everything but was thankful that her two children – one 1 ½ and the other 3 – had not been hurt. Now, however, reality was setting in. She had nothing but the clothes on her and her children’s backs.
“I don’t know what to do or where to go,” Amanda said when she came to Catholic Charities West Michigan for help.
At the baby and toddler pantry, Amanda received diapers, wipes and clothes. The children received a pack ‘n’ play, stroller, shoes and socks. She also was given information about local agencies that could help her find a temporary place to stay.
Amanda continues to visit the baby and toddler pantry once a month and tells staff there that she doesn’t know where she would be without it.
With immediate needs met, Amanda found new permanent housing and daycare for her children and put her family’s life back together.
